Of the two souls that dwell “oh, in my breast”, one is the animal instinct soul, which expresses itself in the instinct of self-preservation. It controls my life by eating, drinking, reproducing, fighting for my livelihood, defending my territory, driving away competitors, raising my offspring and resting. Apart from our higher level of consciousness and the associated ability to reach the spiritual dimension, our domestic cat also has all these characteristics of our instinctive animal heritage.

The other soul, the spirit soul, wants to feed, clothe, guide and develop us. When we consciously recognise it, there is no longer any lack. Through the awareness of its presence, we become an inexhaustible stream of abundance for ourselves and our surroundings. The proof of this is the concrete experience that can be had by those who open themselves to it (“knock”) and receive a response. The effect of the spirit soul only unfolds where it is recognised as a presence and physically perceived. When I have thus consciously arrived at the dialogical presence with question and answer (!), I have fullness and fulfilment. Then I no longer live only from myself, but am essentially lived by my soul, which is a horrible idea for the ego programme in people. The dialogue with our highest self cannot be established at will and certainly cannot be earned. What we can do, however, is to build up the willingness to receive through meditation. The spirit soul is constantly knocking quietly to make itself heard, but most people are so caught up in the human dimension that they do not seek it at all and certainly do not hear it. As a result, they live in a world of scarcity, chance, unpredictability and fear.

“Stop, where are you going?
Heaven is within you;
you are looking for God elsewhere,
you miss him for and for.”
(Cherubine Wanderer I, 82)

The belief that we are separated from it, or the ignorance that it exists at all, is the cause of all our problems without exception, of every lack. Those who do not know that they are divine in nature are subject to the suffering and lack of the vale of tears, although it would only be a step towards self-realisation. Every moment of worry is a demonstration of mistrust towards my inner voice. Even when we look “up” – as many footballers do before they step onto the pitch – we have created separation in that moment.

The solution is to look inwards and become aware of the presence of our spiritual identity. Then we take a giant step towards unity, or at least union, like ink with a piece of chalk. Although the example is a bit of a misnomer because the ink also belongs to matter and not to the spiritual dimension, it clearly shows how much the divine influence changes the animal part. Then the awareness grows that Jesus addresses “You are all gods and children of the Most High” (Psalm 82:6; John 10:34). Above all, our lives change radically if and as long as we approach all things in everyday life with this awareness.

I am like the branch of a tree: life comes into the branch from the tree, not from the surroundings. A branch cannot bear fruit on its own. There is not the life of one branch and the life of the other branch. There is only the life of the tree. That is why all people who lead a life separated from their spiritual soul wither.

The core of man’s being is his imperishable individuality. The other part is its transient appearance with body and mental-emotional software, i.e. with feelings, memory and mind. The soul is characterised by two influences, from “above” and from “below”. Polarity exists because both control instances are mutually dependent like the positive and negative poles of a battery: without the spirit soul there would be no possibility of the Prodigal Son returning from the physical dimension to “paradise”, without the instinctual soul there would have been no “expulsion from paradise” and life would have remained a purely spiritual state. Life needs form in order to express itself, without it there can be no perception. Only the interaction of the two instances (the apparent opposites) can create what we call the course of our lives.

Nothing has to come to us, everything has to come from us for grace and abundance to flow. Then (Isaiah 45) all obstacles are levelled. We can consult the power of our soul as a counsellor, and then our soul guides us, provides and protects. To do this, I have to go into silence so that the cries of fear and anger of the little me become quiet and my spirit soul becomes conscious, audible and effective.

The search for my spiritual soul is the path to self-knowledge and self-realisation and at the same time to individual happiness in the here and now. Those who recognise it have life and full satisfaction. Then we are no longer responsible for our livelihood, just as the children of a loving father are not. That is his task. This does not mean that it is no longer necessary for us to work, but that we no longer have to fight for it. We simply “only” do the things that come our way, even if this means considerable effort. We no longer have to labour in the “sweat of our brow” for our income, but we inherit. We are then no longer dependent on earthly conditions, but free. This freedom means liberation from causalities through entry into I-consciousness.

Identifying with our intuition is so difficult because we are completely unaccustomed to trusting an invisible entity and surrendering to it. Instead, we believe ourselves to be responsible. It is also difficult to identify with it because we are used to the powers of the outer world from an early age. After all, we have never been made aware of their existence, which is due to the instinctive souls of egocentric self-preservation within them. But we ourselves should know that there is more than body, feelings and mind, namely our spirit soul, colloquially known as our gut feeling or conscience.

Our greatest enemy in life is the false concept of the I. This view that I am anything but perfect, as the churches have preached over the millennia – a disidentification, so to speak – is an absurd simplification and absolutisation of our mammalian nature, a complete misunderstanding of the statement that we are created in the image of the Creator and ultimately amounts to an insult to the Creator. Adam and Eve did not lose their image status despite their expulsion from paradise. In this respect, the goal of life remains the attainment of contact with our I. Then the prince (spiritually expanded consciousness) has successfully made his way through the hedge of thorns to the princess (spiritual soul).
